On instituting immediate inquiry, I found that one of the office Coolies, Augun, was present, but that the other Coolie, Asui, had not made his appearance at the office, nor had he been seen that morning, which immediately raised my suspicions against him.

The statement of the other Office Coolie, Augun, was that he went out about 4 o'clock on the afternoon of the 9th instant and, as he was detained until 9 o'clock, he could not get back to the Office not having a night pass. That he returned the following morning about 8 o'clock, and not seeing Asui, he searched about for the office key, and found it in the drawer of a latrine outside the office door. He had no suspicion.
